Guide for persons having control under Section 18(2) Fire Services Acts 1981 and 2003.
The Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage have just released an updated guide to assist building and operators of all types of premises other than a dwelling house occupied as a single dwelling. This guide gives a practical understand and suggested implementation of these requirements. This will ensure that owners and operators meet their statutory responsibility for fire safety in a premises.
The person deemed as having control over a premises may include the owner, the occupier, someone leasing or hiring the premises. This guide also helps to identify who the responsible person for fire safety, outlines general principles of safety and the expected range of duties.
Prior to the release of this guide there has been no general national standard fire safety guidance for building owners or operators. It is expected that provision of this Guide will introduce a recognised national approach which will assist in this regard and help to ensure reasonable standards of fire safety in buildings.
