According to figures released by the HSA at the start of the year 37 people were killed in work-related accidents in 2018.
An analysis of the accidents by the Authority (www.hsa.ie) reveals that 18 of the people killed were killed in vehicle related incidents at work.
Over the last six years, almost half (45%) of all reported work-related fatalities involved vehicles. Over the next two weeks inspectors from the HSA will be focusing their efforts on companies that have a large fleet of vehicles. Specific issues such as vehicle operations, particularly low speed manoeuvres, load securing and driving for work will be targeted.

Certification and safety of vehicles including fork lifts.
Throughout the two-week campaign, inspectors will focus on:
Pedestrian management near moving vehicles
Reversing and slow speed manoeuvres
Secure Loading and unloading of payloads
Compliance with Design Gross Vehicle Weight Vehicle maintenance and cab tidiness
Certification and safety of fork lifts, tail lifts and lorry loader cranes.
